When I first started learning portrait photography I studied the importance of focal lengths, aperture and composition.
With the help of different tutorials I was soon getting very nice results, and not long after that people started asking me if I was available for professional portrait shoots.
This happened during summertime, when there was lots of beautiful, natural light – and I really learned to enjoy and make the most of it. However, summer turned to fall and winter, and living close to the Arctic Circle it meant my main light source was gone. Believe me it gets dark here.
For too long I hesitated using my external flash – I used to say I didn’t like the way flash photography looked, but I just really didn’t know how to use my flash the right way. When I finally had to learn it was like a whole new world just opened up for me. These are some of my favorite techniques.
