When you’re taking photos of a subject that’s moving fast, it’s a great opportunity to create motion blur and make your subject really stand out.
Professional photographer Gavin Hoey is using a technique called panning to capture cyclists in Amsterdam. He’s taking these shots with a Canon EOS 60D and a Canon EF 24-105mm f/4L IS USM lens but you can use a prime or basically any lens available to do this. When you’ve tried this technique a few times and learned how to adjust your shutter speed correctly, it’s easy to start using panning in all kinds of creative ways.
Gavin is also giving you great tips on how to post-process your image in Camera Raw.
