This next tip is so important and I can’t believe some photographers are still not doing this.
Store a back-up copy of their images onto an external hard drive, or somewhere safe.
I store all my images on 2 external hard drives and I know photographers who are using 5 or more hard drives just to make sure their photos are safe. Here’s a video from professional photographer Matt Granger. He explains what he does to keep all of his images safe.
The next tip is one of the most important things you can do to improve your work.
Get inspiration from other photographers you admire. Read eBooks, magazines, blog posts, look at Facebook posts, or view YouTube videos. Visit galleries, take workshops or go on a photography tour to learn from a more experienced shooter.
The key is to get inspiration from photographers who are more experienced and at this point more talented than you are. If you only follow the work of people who are at the same level in photography as you are, you’re not going to see what your photos are missing. Seeing work that’s above your level will make you want to find out about the techniques and learn how to do it yourself.
