I’m pretty sure all beginning photographers start by just taking a lot of pictures, not knowing too many details about creating a great photograph.
At least that’s how it all started for me. I loved something I saw in front of me, and I took a picture of it.
After that came a time when I started focusing on composition, and how to make all the elements work together in a way that’s pleasing to the eye of the viewer.
When I look at my photos from that time period, I see many promising ones. But what stands out is the fact that I didn’t know how to use light in my favor.

There were a lot of under and overexposures, as well as unwanted shadows and highlights that didn’t really bring out the best in whatever I was shooting. It wasn’t until later that I realized I needed to learn more about light itself.
