cant’ say this strong enough….STAY AWAY FROM THE VASELINE HACK!!!….get a small amount on your prime lens by accident and you will need to have it professionally cleaned….the stuff gets into every crevice when it’s warm….like here in Florida. If you want the same effect use a clear Saran Wrap and burn or punch holes in it then put it over your lens….much safer and effect is identical.

Thanks for showing these hack type things. So many folks do not know how to be creative with their digital rigs without deep technical knowledge, they have lost their gusto for just taking photographs. Keep up the good work!!!

I would not get Vaseline anywhere near my camera, lenses or UV filters for that matter!
You buy a cheap (used) UV filter just to do this to. Works pretty well.
The string one can be done for a lot less money. Just get a 1/4×20 bolt and wing nut. Get a bolt say 1 to 1.25″ long. Put wing nut on bolt all the way to the top, then screw the bolt into the tripod socket. When you hit bottom, back the bolt out 1/2 turn, then tighten the wing nut against the camera bottom. Instead of $10, this is about 50 cents.
