Photographer Eric Rossi created this great focusing tip video
I’m going to spoil tip #1 by putting it here. The first tip he recommends which he says has about an 85% accuracy is using the infrared focus assist beam on a hot shoe flash. The one problem with this is that it require you to have a hot shoe flash attached to your camera. I recently wrote an article about an inexpensive flash solution called “Do You Think Flash Photography Is Too Expensive?”. In that article there is a flash controller that sits on camera and controls your off camera flashes. It actually has a built in infrared focus assist which photographers claim works great. It is for Canon and you can see the unit on Amazon it’s the Canon ST-E3-RT Speedlite Transmitter.
