Tamron is poised to make this lens type far more affordable with the Brand New Tamron SP 15-30mm f/2.8.
They have even included Vibration Compensation in the lens. According to an article over at Fstoppers the price has not yet been announced in the US but it has been announced in Japan. Tamron Japan says the lens will retail for $1,178.00.That’s over $400 less than the Canon and over $700 less than the Nikon!
Update: This official announcement is only for Japan. The US price has not been announced. Earlier in the week a potential price leak was reported for Tamron’s newest wide-angle zoom, which features vibration compensation and a fast f/2.8 aperture throughout the zoom range. As it turns out, we were misled — but this is actually good news. Not only will the new Tamron come in several hundred dollars below what we previously thought, but it is also set to release before the year’s end.
Up until now, the fast-aperture wide-angle zoom market has been unarguably dominated by Nikon’s fantastic 14-24mm f/2.8. Sure, Canon makes a very nice 16-35mm f/2.8 and Tokina even makes a less expensive 16-28mm f/2.8.

good look!
Until they make their lens weather sealed and use metal for the bodies, I can’t afford to use. To bad, it will probably be a nice lens.
You can get the Sigma 12-24 under $1000, what I use for my Real Estate shoots on a 5D Mark iii.
Looking forward to the opportunity to use this lens and enjoying your magazine. Thank you for the offer.
Thanks James
The only lens im interested on right now from Tamron is the 150-600
That’s a good lens also Mike- much different purpose but a great lens
Thankful for the upgraded competition of Tamron and Sigma. They are driving the competitive quality up, … and challenging the overpriced thrones of Canon and Nikon! When competition occurs, the consumer wins!
very affordable? compared to what again?
It’s much more affordable compared to both the Nikkor 14-24 f2.8 and the Canon 16-35 f2.8 Bobby
Mike Rosario you won’t be disappointed. The 150×600 is amazing
I’ve used every Tamron lens I own in wet weather. Never have any issues.
I’ll wait 10 years for my idea of affordable
Married with 4 kids here
Just have to start making some money with that camera Kev
Sweet.
I have the 150-600mm, from Tamron, and for the price it’s very hard to beat. It’s been proven to not be as sharp as its more pricier cousins, but it can handle a lot of scenarios well. I have many great wildlife photographs because of it and teaming up with a crop sensor camera (putting a magnifier on it will cause it to be way to slow).
I don’t want to post links and take over the thread, but give my name a search and you will be able to find them!
Confirmed.
Raymond out of 5000 visits 200 people have gotten that error- we are aware
Too late I already got a Canon 16-35 f2.8L II and I love it!!
Cheaper lens with better reviews!
BUT, how will it resolve at 2.8?
The Tokina 16-28 F2.8 is priced at $699
You can’t put a filter on it though. I personally use ND filters when shooting with this type of lens. Although I have a Rokinon 14mm which I can use for night sky/milky way shots. That lens was only $399 but completely manual. I got some great Milky Way shots with it though.
it’s going to be around $1,200
Yet, still too damn expensive for normal people!
That’s what they call affordable?!
Don’t you tempt me!
Saving my pennies for this one
Or you could get a Sigma 18-35 f/1.8 for $799, which is probably a better lens anyway.
I’ll take the sigma.
Me li papa lol
If you don’t need the VC you could get the 17-35 2.8 for like 300$ and it has great IQ for the price!
